The basic joke, which had nothing to do with the dynamics of the video game in which the characters find themselves trapped, was out mismatched the avatars were, with the real persons who inhabited them. There was also a really charming, sentimental twist at the end of the story that was more or less the cherry on top of the sundae.
It was impossible for the sequel to duplicate the twist, but darned if it didn't take the basic joke, twist it, elaborate on it, and spin it around and around in ways i found consistently surprising and funny. A very entertaining two hours. Strongly recommended.

Spencer goes back into Jumanji as he doesn't feel great about his life and the rest of his friends get together for the holidays

Spencer has to deal with being around his ex girlfriend and says he wanted to feel like Bravestone again
Fridge and Martha fall into some special water and Fridge is now Ruby and Martha is now Jack Black, go in the water again and switch back
Travel though desert and jungle in some decent action scenes at are heavily CGI'd with the animals chasing them
Basically everyone has one life left putting them all in danger, have to work together
Bethany and Alex arrive in the game to save everyone, Alex in Nick Jonas and Bethany is a horse
Milo and Eddie reconnect and are friends again, Milo has cancer that's why he sought out Eddie, nice moment
Find water that lets them change bodies and it's back to the original films characters with the Horse as Milo and Eddie as Awkwafina, since they had their moment
Eddie and Milo are taken by the bad guys and must travel to top of a snow covered mountain
Martha and Spencer have a moment where they reconnect as well, still care about each other
Not a single moment in the film made me laugh which is disappointing because the first one was pretty funny
Apparently the horse can fly and helps Spencer after he retrieved the stone
Show the Jewel to the sun and yell out Jumanji and they all won the game and make it out alive
Milo decides to stay inside of Jumanji as the horse who can fly, very dumb because he's a horse
Everyone has their sincere moments at the end which are nice
Everyone gets together at the grandpas old diner and Eddie gets a job there and all the friends hang out
All agree never to go back but then we see the guy who's going to fix the furnace about to touch the game and it looks like Jumanji has now entered the real word

Film stays mild and mediocre throughout
Some of the action can be interesting
Story is uninspired and tells on the past film for everything
Didn't laugh a single time in the film
Some of the heartfelt moments were nice but some were corny and stupid
Would not recommend this film.
